Wei (Viviane) Bi has a compound education background in construction management. She received a Bachelor of Engineering degree and an MPhil degree from Southeast University (Nanjing, China), majoring in Construction Management and Management Science & Engineering, respectively. She has been awarded the National Scholarship twice by the Ministry of Education of China and has been honoured as the Outstanding Graduate in the major of Construction Management by Jiangsu Province. In her second year of master’s studies, she participated in an exchange program at Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris, where she received a Master’s degree in Management with support from the China Scholarship Council (CSC). Prior to joining Cambridge, Wei worked as a research assistant at the University of Hong Kong for ten months, focusing on optimising construction waste management from the perspective of waste collection and transportation.
Wei is currently a PhD candidate under the supervision of Dr. Kristen MacAskill at the Centre for Sustainable Development (CSD). Dr. Jennifer Schooling, the director of the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC), is her advisor.
She matriculated at Newnham College in October 2021.
Research interests:
Wei has a particular research interest in the Climate Resilience of Lifeline Infrastructure Systems. Her PhD research focuses on the Flood Resilience Assessment and Optimisation of Urban Rail Transit Systems (URTSs). In collaboration with Transport for London, Wei aims to combine complex network modelling, scenario analysis, and data science to quantify the flood resilience of urban rail transit systems and test the effectiveness of potential interventions for improving operational resilience in the event of extreme flooding. Her ultimate objective is to assist asset owners in diagnosing current vulnerabilities within the system and furnish a concrete basis for well-informed decision-making regarding resilience planning.
