Alice graduated from her MEng Degree in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering from Cambridge in 2021, before joining the FIBE2 CDT for her PhD.  During and before her MEng she completed placements with various civil engineering and energy companies, which led to an interest in how the two sectors need to work together to achieve a transition to net zero energy systems.

Her PhD is focused on prioritising interventions in infrastructure design and operations for lower carbon energy assets. The work is fully funded by the EPSRC, BP and Aveva within the Future Infrastructure and the Built Environment: Resilience in a Changing World (FIBE2) CDT and will be supervised by Dr André Cabrera Serrenho. Specifically she is focused on the role hydrogen may have in the energy system, and in which scenarios it's use could align with net zero targets. It has been suggested that hydrogen could be produced offshore, or imported from other countries but the additional infrastructure and transmission costs may mean that these scenarios are not economically or environmentally feasible.
