Hugh is a 3rd year PhD student in the Centre for Sustainable Development, supervised by Dr Andre Cabrera Serrenho. Prior to joining the Centre for Sustainable Development, he completed his MEng Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Durham University, during which he developed an interest in renewable energy technologies and their role in mitigating climate change.
Hugh’s PhD research explores transport sector decarbonisation, with a particular focus on quantifying the potential of demand side interventions to reduce energy demand and emissions. His aim is to understand how transportation patterns and behaviours can be adapted to improve the efficiency of transport use whilst still providing an acceptable level of service. During the second year of his PhD Hugh completed a secondment at the OECD where he worked on developing transport demand modelling techniques.
