Dr Yunhu Gao is a research associate in Dr André Cabrera Serrenho’s group. Yunhu focuses on the decarbonization of the global petrochemical sector, by studying macro-scale modelling, industrial decarbonization practices and future decarbonization technology development.
He established models for the global supply chain and lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions of two groups of staple chemicals: nitrogen fertilizers and polymers, and the related paper published in Nature Food has been reported by more than 100 media outlets in several languages.
He also studied the decarbonization of distillation, the most energy-consuming technology in the sector, using oxygen-18 isotope separation as a typical process. He designed and built three production lines of oxygen-18 water as a project manager.
