New book on Sustainable Water

Dick Fenner and Charles Ainger have published a new book on Sustainable Water through ICE publishing which will be available from February 2nd 2016.

Sustainable Water is part of the Delivering Sustainable Infrastructure series and follows a framework of fundamental sustainability principles outlined in their earlier volume  Sustainable Infrastructure : Principles into Practice ( 2014)  offering guidance and examples of how these can be applied to the water sector. It is designed to be readily accessible to practitioners and contains contributions from many leading voices in the water industry, capturing their collective experiences and perspectives.

Starting by exploring the challenges and issues which impact on managing all forms of water, the book considers  water supply, wastewater disposal and flood management, examining water in both urban and rural systems, as well as identifying the ways  basic water and sanitation provision is met in the developing world, where solutions are often bounded by a different set of constraints. Case studies are given of successful innovation by water utility operators and the final section deals with how the necessary changes can be brought about by those working in the water industry.  Sustainable Water explains what is needed to provide more sustainable solutions in each part of the  water industry and describes the latest best practice and methodologies, illustrated with leading industry examples. Dick and Charles also  highlight key trends to enable innovation and suggest  the right questions to ask at each stage of project delivery, focusing on what engineers can do. Sustainable Water identifies and applies the critical changes needed to provide more sustainable solutions, and to embed these into a tradition of excellence by delivering sufficient water through a good service, of the right quality and at an affordable cost, as straightforwardly as possible.
